Our Story

"Two hearts, one journey, forever intertwined"

Six months - that is how long we overlapped at Northwestern University in 2019. Looking back, it is remarkable to think that before a lifetime together, we only shared a city for half a year. Our journey began when we first met at a small church group, led by a close friend, and from our first "date" at a cozy Tapas spot on campus, we both sensed a special connection that bridged our different backgrounds, cultures, and personalities.

Our early conversations sparked a fascination with each other's perspectives on the world, which quickly grew into deep admiration rooted in shared values: commitment, intentionality, and a desire to live for Christ. Our love story spans two continents and four years of separation, during which we grew individually and spiritually, trusting that God's timing is perfect. Being able to celebrate our big day with friends and family despite the time and distance is a true testament to His steadfast love and provision.

After Northwestern, Yufan moved to Boston for research, while Charlotte returned to Hong Kong to complete dental school. What started as casual check-ins soon turned into long conversations and a visit to Hong Kong, where Yufan gathered up all his courage to ask Charlotte out (thankfully, she said yes). Yet after just a few short months that included travelling to Malaysia and Boston together, the COVID-19 pandemic hit and we were suddenly thrust into a season of uncertainty. Navigating a long-distance relationship amidst border closures, unpredictable reunions, and diverging career paths, we realized we were not ready to handle such challenges yet and needed to grow in maturity and grace.

In the years that followed, we each individually experienced tremendous highs and lows, as God opened a difficult, but miraculous path to medical school for Yufan and provided for Charlotte throughout her toughest years of dental school. We experienced moments of pride and regret, but through it all, we were reminded time and time again of one unwavering truth: God is faithful.

Reconnecting after our separation, we were confident that our foundation in Christ remained strong. We learned more about each other's cultural nuances and personality differences, growing in patience and understanding. Yet, what remained unchanged were the core qualities we cherish - of kindness, perseverance, and faith - that continue to deepen our appreciation for one another.

The past few years, especially in a post-COVID world, have been a blessing. We have had the joy of sharing experiences that we were previously only able to talk about over texts and calls: exploring each other's childhood homes, meeting families and friends, discovering favorite local spots, and savoring delicious foods we had only been able to admire in the many pictures we sent each other. Supporting each other through milestones (Yufan completing medical school and beginning residency, Charlotte graduating from dental school and earning her Master's) has been an immense source of delight and gratitude. During Yufan's final year of medical school, we were able to spend many wonderful months together, witnessing firsthand how we reflect Christ's love through both small gestures and big sacrifices, and how we support each other's dreams and hard work.

To become engaged was a big decision, but one that came about so naturally as we reflected upon how much God has provided in our relationship, and that in each other, we have found who we want to spend the rest of our lives with. What a privilege it is to love and be loved by one another, and how grateful we are that we are now at least a little closer to being in the same city.

Thank you for being a part of our story. We are so excited to celebrate our wedding day with you!

With love, Charlotte & Yufan

Travel Information

Hong Kong has some of the most efficient, inter-connected and affordable public transport in the world! Here is everything you need to know for your visit.

Getting to the City from the Airport

Hong Kong Airport

The Airport Express takes you to downtown Central in just 24 minutes, providing a quick and comfortable connection to the city.

Getting Around Hong Kong

Octopus Card

To maximize your travel convenience, consider getting an Octopus Card. This rechargeable smart card can be used on the MTR, buses, trams, ferries, and even at convenience stores, shops and restaurants. You can easily purchase and top up the card at the Airport, MTR stations and convenience stores throughout the city.

MTR (Mass Transit Railway)

The MTR is our subway and one of the fastest ways to travel around Hong Kong. It covers major areas and is user-friendly, with signage in both English and Chinese. Be sure to download the MTR map app on your smartphone to easily plan your routes and stay informed about schedules and services. Our wedding venues are located near Admiralty MTR station.

Bus

Hong Kong Bus

In addition to the MTR, bus services provide extensive coverage across Hong Kong. Routes are well-marked and schedules are very frequent. Use Google Maps or the Easy Transit app for route planning.

Ferries

If you are looking for a scenic route, consider taking a ferry to explore different islands and waterfront views.

Trams

The iconic double-decker trams are a fun and affordable way to see the city from a unique perspective.

Getting to Union Church

By Taxi

Taxis are a convenient option for reaching Union Church. A ride from nearby areas on Hong Kong Island typically costs between 30-80 HKD.

Most hotels can call a taxi for you, and it is often easy to hail one on the street. Some taxi drivers may not be comfortable speaking English, so we recommend having the address in Chinese handy:

香港佑寧堂, 堅尼地道22A號

If you are using Uber, you can simply input the address in English:
Union Church, Kennedy Road, Mid Levels, Hong Kong

By Public Transit

Take the MTR to Admiralty Station. From there, you can either walk for about 15 minutes or take buses 23 or 40, which will bring you just steps away from the ceremony venue.

  • Citybus 23 runs from North Point to Pokfield Road, including stops along Queensway outside Pacific Place and 10 Kennedy Road
  • Citybus 40 also stops on Kennedy Road, but service is less frequent
  • Minibus 22 and 22S from Central Exchange Square can stop at 10 Kennedy Road
  • Minibus 28 traverses Kennedy Road between Causeway Bay and Pokfulam
  • Citybus 12A is a circular route through Central, Admiralty, MacDonnell Road and Kennedy Road

Getting to Conrad Hotel

Walking from Union Church

The Conrad Hotel is just a short 13-minute stroll from Union Church (according to Google Maps), or a brisk 7 minutes if you are walking at Charlotte's speed! Enjoy a scenic route that takes you through Hong Kong Park, where you can admire local flowers, spot various birds, and even catch a glimpse of turtles in the pond.

Walking route from Union Church to Conrad Hotel through Hong Kong Park

Walking route through Hong Kong Park - approximately 14 minutes (950m)

By Public Transit

Conrad Hong Kong is conveniently located above Pacific Place, a well-known shopping mall in Hong Kong.

MTR: Conrad Hotel is a 3 minute walk from Exit F, Admiralty MTR station. Admiralty Station is the interchange for the Island, East Rail Line, Tsuen Wan and South Island lines. Trains run from 6am - 1am (departing every 5-10 minutes) with travel times from major stations listed below:
